FIJI’S success over the past decade has proven the Opposition wrong more powerfully than “I could ever hope”, says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Speaking in response to President Jioji Konrote’s speech in Parliament, he said the Fiji First Government had proven that unity was not a weakness.

“Our common identity is not an affront to anyone; it is our people’s greatest strength,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“You cannot undo our great achievements. You cannot rob our people of their national identities. You cannot walk into a Year 6 classroom and tell those young folks, they are not all Fijians.

“You cannot tell our students their merit and hard work will be ignored because they do not have the right background or the right last name, the right connections, they are not from the right province or they do not have enough money.

“You cannot, you will not drag us back into our divisive and unequal past.

“Mr. Speaker, if they are not willing to acknowledge that legality, they are unworthy of the seat they hold and the nation they intend to represent.”
