WITH the 2018 General Elections just days away, Fijian Prime Minister and leader of the FijiFirst party says there are still discussions going on about iTaukei land not being secure.

He said these discussions had been ongoing ever since the 2014 General Election.

“I reminded Sitiveni Rabuka today (Monday) you were the ones who sold iTaukei land,” Mr Bainimarama claimed.

He further claimed that when Mr Rabuka and Laisenia Qarase held the position of Prime Minister, they were the ones who sold the land .

Mr Bainimarama said under the 2013 constitution, all iTaukei land was protected under Section 28.

Under section 28 (1) of the 2013 constitution states that the ownership of all iTaukei land would remain with its customary owners.

“The ownership of the all iTaukei land shall remain with the customary owners of the land and iTaukei land shall not be permanently alienated , whether by sale, grant , transfer or exchange, except to the State in accordance with section 27.”
