FIJIFIRST party general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the party can also say that they will give a minimum wage rate of $6 an hour after elections but that would not be right for the people to believe in what is not right.
While speaking at the FijiFirst campaign at Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School in Navua yesterday, Sayed-Khaiyum said the Bainimarama government was the first to implement the minimum wage.
“People are saying $5 an hour. Sounds very sweet but we are not saying we are against pay rise. Bainimarama was the one who introduced minimum wage rate in Fiji. Nobody allowed minimum wage before,” he said.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said a review will be done on the minimum wage rate after the elections.
“We brought in a minimum wage rate at $2. Then we went to $2.32 and then went to $2.68 and as announced in the budget we said we will do a review again,” he said.
The 2018 General Election takes place on November 14.
