Bainimarama and Qiliho charged with abuse of office; in custody at CPS

Former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama and suspended police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho will be spending the night at Central Police Station after being charged with one count each of abuse of office.

The charges were made in relation to the termination of an active police investigation related into the University of the South Pacific in July 2019.

Fiji Police Chief of Intelligence, Investigations and Prosecutions Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Sakeo Raikaci said that further investigations would be conducted by Director of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Loraini Seru.

They will be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
