IN a bid to promote healthy living in Fiji, the Ministry of Agriculture distributed 50 backyard gardening materials to farmers in Lami Village today.

Officiating at the event was the Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development Jale Sigarara who said backyard gardening could alleviate poverty and birth a healthy Fiji.

“Start practicing backyard gardening in your various communities as it will improve your physical fitness and help maintain a healthy lifestyle,” he said.

“They can still grow many of their favourite vegetables and even sell the surplus to generate extra income for their families with innovative and smart backyard gardening techniques.”

Meanwhile, Mr Sigarara is scheduled to distribute similar materials at the Nauluvatu Community Hall tomorrow.
