Newly-crowned Miss Back to Ba Carnival Rukshar Zareen has dedicated her win to Fijians battling vision impairment.

The Lovu, Lautoka lass scooped two major awards, the main Miss Ba and Miss Charity from the week-long festivity, a win she dubbed as the beginning of many successful ones ahead.

“I have always wanted to take part in such a carnival to help me gain my public speaking confidence and I am glad this Ba one provided me the right platform,” the Fiji National University student said.

“I was also able to promote the issue of vision impairment and the importance of caring and looking out for our brothers and sisters with this medical condition.

“My main message was — spare a dollar of yours, it can save a person’s life, and I’m glad the message was received well from those at the carnival,” she said.

Ms Zareen, 24, was sponsored by Bayview Cove Resort and Lovely Rental Cars and competed against six other young queens.

She said she was grateful to carnival organisers for allowing her to be part of the event.
