RUGBY officials will attend courses so they can officiate better in the Oceania 7s, says Oceania Rugby yesterday.
In a press release from the Oceania 7s organisers, it states the support was to assist train referees, assistant referees, in goal judges, substitution managers and substitution controllers. There are plans that the next training will be for citing commissioners and judicial officers and match commissioner trainings.
“Oceania match official female trainer from New Zealand Lyndon McKendry, MO trainer from Australia Michael Tanzer and World Rugby regional training manager for Oceania Talemo Waqa will facilitate a regional World Rugby match official 7s course and performance reviewer course aimed at upskilling Fiji Rugby Union leading provincial referees and referee coaches/educators,” the release said.
“The MO 7s course will be delivered at FASANOC house conference room catering for 12 referees and assistant referees and four referee performance reviewers and educators. They will then be assessed during the tournament in their different roles as officials.
The topics which will be covered are principles of 7s refereeing, preparation to referee 7s, how to referee 7s, how to assist in 7s, practical in refereeing 7s and reviewing 7s performance.
“Talemo Waqa is looking forward to working with the Fiji Rugby Union educators to deliver this training,” the statement further read.
“He stated that whilst we have the trainers coming, it is more of an upskill session for the local educators who will be co-delivering certain topics. This will allow them to go back and deliver better 7s MO level one courses to all the Referees around Fiji.”
The course will run from November 6-9.
