THE Fiji under-20 rugby teams secured five first half tries against Namibia to win their third place play off in the World Rugby U20 Trophy.
Vuniani Mokalou drew first blood capitalising on a scrum five metres from Namibia’s line as he powered through to the tryline to put Fiji on the scoreboard with Jone Manu slotting the conversion to put Fiji in the lead 8-0.
Winger Wame Naituvoi broke through the opposition defence to score the second try. Mokalou and Naituvoi set the pace for the team as there were three more tries secured in quick succession just before half time from Ratu Rupeni Matawalu, Frank Lomani and Viliame Tuidraki.
Fiji held off a Namibia fightback in the second spell after the opposition managed four tries keeping them in contention. Their efforts were left a little too late however after Tudraki crossed the tryline for his second to help his team seal the third spot with a 44-30 win.
Fiji’s third place finish however gives the team no chance of advancing to the World Rugby U20 Championships.
