Baber’s men ready

FIJI Airways Fiji 7s team had training sessions yesterday in preparation for this weekend’s Hong Kong 7s tournament at the So Kon Po Stadium.

As the defending champion, Fiji is hunting for its fourth win in as many years. If it does, it will be the first country to do so.

Fiji has a high success rate at the tournament winning six times in the past 10 years. Only Samoa (2010) and New Zealand (2008, 2011, 2014) have stopped Fiji from its winning streak in these years.

Fiji is currently second in the HSBC Series standings behind South Africa.

Olympian Semi Kunatani is a member of the Fiji squad in HK with fellow Olympians Vatemo Ravouvou, Jasa Veremalua, Samisoni Viriviri and Jerry Tuwai.

After Hong Kong, the team will travel to the Gold Coast in the sevens rugby tournament.

Meanwhile, series sponsors HSBC are gearing up to launch their inaugural Community Day aimed at inspiring future players and coaches of the game.

The inaugural Community Day will take place tomorrow at the Indian Recreation Club with HSBC providing a full day of activities, combining the buzz of a fan village with the ever successful Try Rugby coaching clinics.

A key highlight for aspiring young players will be the free drop in sessions for children aged 5-12 years, who can learn the basics of the game under the tutelage of HSBC ambassadors such as Ben Ryan and Brian O’Driscoll.

Former Fiji 7s player and coach and HSBC ambassador Waisale Serevi will also be holding a global launch of his book in Hong Kong this Friday.
