FIJI 7s coach Gareth Baber is under no illusion that the Los Angeles Sevens tournament will be a walk in the park for him and his Fijian 7s gladiators.
The Welshman knows fully well the capabilities of Pool A oppositions Argentina and France. Beside South Korea, Baber said a lapse of concentration by his players on the field could cause them the game, especially with Argentina and France in the mix.
“‘We have a tough pool and we will be up against two teams who have beaten us this season,” Baber said.
“Our first game is against South Korea and we want to concentrate on ourselves and take each game as it comes.”
Arriving in San Francisco last week to acclimatise, the Fiji 7s warriors have hit the ground running. This includes an early opportunity to test their capacity in a scrimmage session against Australia yesterday. Baber aims to win the two tournaments in this leg.
“We are playing Australia to judge ourselves and test some of our set-pieces ahead of the LA 7s,” Baber said there was excitement in the camp and complete focus for the two-day tournament.
“We know about the size of Los Angeles and we know all teams will be in a process of finding a little bit about the tournament. “‘We need to be flexible which we have talked about as a team.”
Fiji takes on South Korea at 6.51am on Sunday, France at 9.47am before battling Argentina at 1.05pm.
