The Fijian 7s team has taken heed of the quality that New Zealand and Australia will present at the PacificAus Sports Oceania Sevens tournament in Townsville next week after analysing the videos of the matches between the two nations last month.
Australia and New Zealand played in a series of six matches in Auckland over three days with the Kiwis making a clean sweep.
Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber said though the Oceania Sevens tournament was going to be tough, they had made no secret that both nations were going to be ahead of them by virtue of playing in the series.
“I have watched all those games and have analysed them,” Baber said. “The players have analysed it also and they enjoy doing that.
I think that there are areas of the game that both teams have are of different qualities, but they also have different weaknesses as well.”
Baber said his players did not have to get carried away in the scenario of the opposition having more game time.
“We have to back the way that we train and the way we have prepared. You always do that as a playing group.
“You have to look at what your performance is like and you have to be humble enough to understand that you are not going to get everything right as we are humans at the end of it.
“Really what we will be doing is putting all that information together after the event.” The Oceania 7s will be played from June 25-27.
