GARETH Baber has apologised to Fijian fans for his side’s sixth place performance at the HSBC Las Vegas 7s at Sam Boyd Stadium yesterday.

“We apologise for not being able to live up to expectations, obviously we let us ourselves down.

“We got another job to do next week.

“We came here last year with the same expectations and didn’t get what we wanted and we went on and won in Vancouver, we have got that very much process in mind.”

Fiji finished sixth as USA won gold and also the points to be series leader.

A weekend of upsets, Fiji’s tally included two injuries and a suspended player.

Fiji played with 10 men in the fifth place final and semi-final with Paula Draunisinikula injured and Aminiasi Tuimaba on a three-match suspension. Waisea Nacuqu was injured on the second day of the tournament against Australia.

While it started with a close 14-12 victory over South Africa, Fiji could not maintain its lead over England with the latter sneaking in a late try to win the game 19-14.
