FIJI Airways Sevens coach Gareth Baber was not surprised with Jerry Tuwai’s nomination for the World Rugby Sevens Player Award alongside USA’s Perry Baker and South Africa’s Rosco Specman.
“I am not surprised. The talent he has and the way he plays the game describes the character that he is,” Baber said.
He commended and congratulated Tuwai on his nomination and viewed the flyer as one of Fiji’s notable talents.
“He is very committed to what he does, then he has sparks of brilliance about him and it is fantastic to watch as a player.
“I thoroughly enjoy coaching and working with him and he deserves it, to be nominated alongside some good people in there with South Africa’s Specman and USA’s Baker.”
Baber added that the three deserved being nominated given the amount of work they had put in for their respective teams during the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
He also said Fiji had a lot of talented players who also had the qualities to be nominated.
“I am not surprised to see him among that group at all, but he is not the only one in Fiji, there are players there too who can equally be up for that award,” he said.
