FIJI 7s coach Gareth Baber believes there is more than enough potential in Fiji to secure the sevens Olympics gold medal until the 2044 Olympic Games.

Baber highlighted the natural flair Fijians had for the sport and skill set on hand was more than enough to keep the gold medal in Fiji where it belongs.

“Why do we not lockdown the next five or six Olympics based on what we have in this country,” Baber said.

He said the present systems in place had proven its effectiveness with the team winning the country’s first ever Olympic medal.

With his squad selected and already in Dubai for the first tournament of the 2019-2020 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, Baber said no player had locked down a position with all spots still on offer heading into Tokyo next year.

“The pressure is mounting on the players that have had selections over the last two years and as they say you don’t have the ‘divine right’ to wear that jersey.

“The players know and they have got up their game to do so.”

New Zealand is the defending champion of the Dubai 7s.
