COACH Gareth Baber has said the inclusion of Jerry Tuwai, Waisea Nacuqu and Livai Ikanikoda have provided him an added depth to their play especially in filling the positions of halfback and playmaker.

Baber said in the absence of Amenoni Nasilasila and Vatemo Ravouvou the three have stood up and showed their capability in filling the roles.

“Waisea and Jerry are experienced players and they bring experience and they communicate with the team,” Baber said.

“Livai has also shown real quality for a first time in my program to go to Hong Kong and win there.”

Baber said it was positive for him that he has a difficult time selecting a player to fill the playmaker’s role shows the variety of players he has to choose from and their class.

“One of my philosophy is to have in those positions of influence at halfback and playmaker individuals who can break the game and control defenders and equally have a strategic game as the game progresses.

“We are blessed in that position and the best part is to be in a position where you are having difficulty in making a selection.”

With the tournament kicking off today Baber said the players were focused on the task at hand.

“They are not overthinking where we are at or what we are doing and they are just concentrating on the next game and the focus they establish in their training is just a big part of ensuring they are in a good head space physically and mentally.” |
