FIJI 7s coach Gareth Baber expects a tough competition in Dubai.

Fiji’s first pool match of the 2019/2020 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series kicks off on Friday.

Leading Pool A, Fiji faces Argentina, Japan and France with all teams expected to come out firing in the opening round.

“It has got to be tough, it’s the world series and anybody that has been involved with it has seen how tough it can be,” Baber said.

Fiji meets Japan first in which Baber anticipates the Cherry Blossoms to be firing on all cylinders.

“We have seen some great performance from Japan at the Rugby World Cup and they have been looking forward to taking it to the sevens as they’ll be hosting the next Olympic Games.”

Baber also emphasised that both Argentina and France have been coming hard for Fiji’s scalp in the past series and with the Olympics in sight will not slow down now.

“Argentina and France has been pushing us in the last few years, and we won’t be taking them easy.”

Fiji’s first pool match is against Japan at 4.02am on Friday, Argentina at 10.04pm and France at 4.02am on Saturday.

New Zealand are the defending champion in Dubai.
