THE Babasiga heat failed to dampen the spirits of hundreds of northerners who gathered along Labasa Town’s main street to witness the float processions of the Northern Duavata Crime Prevention Carnival this afternoon.

Members of the Fiji Police Band entertained the crowd playing instrumental tunes of local folk songs that attracted dancers onto the street.

Contestants threw lollies and other goodies to the crowd getting the attention of children.

Carnival committee chairperson Satish Kumar said the week-long festival had not only been successful but empowering.

“Promoting messages of fighting crime has empowered the communities who have come forward to be part of the carnival.”
