Arch rivals Ba and Labasa will face off in the 2021 Digicel Women’s Inter-District Championship final at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this afternoon for the third year running.
Ba holds the edge over the Northerners, beating them 3-2 in the 2019 edition and 2-1 in 2020.
In the second semi-final at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday, Ba defeated a 10-woman Suva side 5-2.
Suva’s Maca Ralagi was sent off in the eighth minute by referee Suruj Prakash for violent conduct.
Narieta Leba scored a brace of goals for Ba while Koleta Likuculacula, Aliza Hussein and captain Luisa Tamanitoakula scored the others.
Ledua Senisea netted Suva’s consolation goal late in the fixture.
Ba led 3-0 at the break. Tamanitoakula said they did their best in the semi-final even though a few former Ba players featured for Suva.
“All teams have come prepared for the IDC and as expected the semi-final was tough but the girls delivered,” Tamanitoakula said.
“Ba and Labasa have battled in many finals so it will be a good clash.
“This is the most anticipated match each year for women’s football in the country.
“We also have some players from Ba in the Labasa team. I know that they have a lot of information about us so they will try to expose our weakness.
“But Ba will come out strongly. These young players will do their best during the final.”
The winner of the IDC will walk away $4000 richer while the runner-up will settle for $1500.
