THE 44th R C Manubhai sponsored Ba Golf Open championship was bolstered with the presence of the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at the FSC Ba Golf Club course yesterday.
Tournament official Rajesh Prasad said the presence of Ratu Epeli motivated the golfers to be at their best.
He said golfers had the opportunity to directly speak to the President during the competition.
“We are honoured to have the President part of this year’s competition,” said Prasad.
“This is a rare occasion for many of us especially for new golfers to see the President in action at the golf course.
“His presence encouraged and motivated all golfers to be at their best and we thanked the President to be part of this year’s tournament.”
Prasad also thanked the sponsor R C Manubhai for its continued support in making this year’s tournament a success.
“This is the only golf event in the country that has been continuously sponsored by a company for such a long time and we thank Mr Rajesh Patel and his team for their support,” he said.
“This is a milestone achievement in itself and to have the President with us is an icing on the cake.”
Meanwhile, Sam Lee leads the field of 80 golfers with a score of 68 after the first day of competition.
Prasad said Lee faced a strong competition from last year’s winner Abid Hussein while other top golfers such as Ollaf Allen Jr, Anuresh Chandra and Roneel Prakash had equal chances of winning the tournament.
The competition ends today.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa hosted a versus par event yesterday. Result was being tallied when this edition went to press last night.
