FIJI number one Jiten Prasad claimed the Best Snooker Player of the Year (A+) in the Southern Division Billiard and Snooker Association (SDBSA) awards on Saturday night at the Merchants Club in Suva.
The Nausori Club player also won the performance of the year award.
Prasad enjoyed a successful season winning Champion of the Champions and two national tournaments along with some SDBSA tournaments.
The 30-year-old, who took up snooker five years ago, dedicated the awards to the young and upcoming snooker players in the country.
He is keen to give back to the sport through running organised clinics around the country.
“I have a lot of respect for other snooker players but I will do my best to remain on top next year,” Prasad said.
“I want to thank my mentors Pritesh Khatri, Viliame Umu, Praneel Singh, Epeli Bua and Jim Gaunavinaka for their support.”
SDBSA president David Ratnam said they had a successful season.
He acknowledged the support of their sponsors in Prakash Seafood Supplies, Carz and Carz, LB Masters, Kaks Marketing, RC Manubhai, Ratnam Investments and Sam Superpool for the support.
Chief guest and former national champion Suresh Chauhan praised the SDBSA for its effort in rewarding and recognising the contribution of the players.
Chauhan was also accorded with the Lifetime Achievement (A+) Award.
