THE Nadi Aviators will play Papua New Guinea Lae Snax Tigers in the Melanesian Cup challenge next month.
The Snax Nadi Aviators claimed the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Inter-Zone Competition title for second year running in 2017. At its annual general meeting last Friday, the Nadi rugby league clubs unanimously re-elected Joe Gray as president.
Don Natabe and Ann Pesamino were re-elected as secretary and treasurer respectively for their third consecutive term.
Snax Nadi Aviators president Gray was humbled by the massive support shown towards the executives.
“This is probably the first time a provincial rugby league side has had an annual general meeting in such a transparent manner in front of their members,” Gray said.
“We in Nadi pride ourselves in setting new standards in the sport and this is the vision that we have set for 2018. We have won the national title two years in a row and our goal is to try and do better during the Melanesian Cup when we play PNG champions Lae Snax Tigers on their home ground.
“The confidence shown by the clubs in the executive team is overwhelming. The executives have the responsibility of looking after the welfare of our clubs and the Nadi Aviators. We have set out plans for this year and we hope to deliver them”
Representatives from Nadi Eels, Sabeto Roosters, Ravoravo Rabbitohs and West Coast Storm were present at the meeting to elect the Nadi Aviators executive team.
“We will be taking an 18-member squad to PNG with two non-travelling reserves,” Gray said.
“The boys have been training exceptionally hard during the off-season and we hope to do Fiji proud in Port Moresby on February 24,” he added.
