Aviation group of experts discuss challenges

A GROUP of experts from the Asia Pacific aviation sector are in Nadi this week to discuss challenges with the implementation of surveillance in the region.

The meeting, which concludes on Friday, is being hosted by Airports Fiji Ltd in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Speaking at the third meeting of the Surveillance Implementation and Coordination Group, AFL executive chairperson Faiz Khan said the objective was to focus on challenges surrounding surveillance.

“There are about 10 million passengers that commute through 100,000 aircraft every day in the world,” he said.

“This number is forecasted to double in the next 15 years. Accordingly there is ever increasing pressure on Air Navigation Service Providers to make air navigation safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable.”
