The Australian A women’s 7s is making the most of the opportunity to compete at the 2023 McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s.
The team’s trip has been made possible through the PacificAus Sports program. Team captain Bella Nasser said the side was taking advantage of this opportunity.
“We are so excited to be in Fiji. PacificAus Sports continues to give Australian and Fijian players the chance to meet, play and learn from each other. We really enjoyed today’s(yesterday’s) games and the warm welcome from the Fijian fans. Vinaka to our Fijian Rugby V uvale for the invitation to compete,” she said.
The Australian government’s PacificAus Sports program is partnering with Rugby Australia and Fiji Rugby Union to accelerate the development of women’s rugby in the Pacific, including supporting the return of the Coral Coast 7s as an official tournament partner. Through PacificAus Sports, Rugby Australia and the Fiji Rugby Union are working together to develop current and emerging talent and create greater opportunities for Pacific teams and players to participate in Australian and regional rugby competitions.
“The Coral Coast 7s has a reputation in Australia for being one of toughest tournaments in the Pacific,” said Rugby Australia’s Pacific partnerships manager Daniel Millis.
“We knew this tournament would be an excellent development opportunity for our teams. Fiji continues to produce some of the best talent in women’s rugby. The Coral Coast 7s is the perfect test for our players.”
