MADEC Australia, a labour-hire company and Approved Employer (AE), under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme visited the Ministry on Tuesday and held discussions on the recruitment of more Fijians soon.

The Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations Osea Cawaru received a courtesy visit from MADEC Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Laurence Burt together with his recruitment team and representatives of a host employer, Perfection Two Wells.

Mr Cawaru warmly welcomed the visitors on behalf of the Fijian Government and acknowledged them for taking the time to visit Fiji to meet with the Team for more employment opportunities for Fijians in Australia and building new relationships.

Mr Burt thanked the National Employment Centre (NEC) team and expressed his appreciation to the Fijian Government for allowing the team to process selection and recruitment in a timely manner, noting the growing demands and how busy the labour sending unit (LSU) is.

“We are indeed impressed with the organisation and dedication provided by the NEC team, they have been very helpful with the selection and recruitment process. We are also amazed by the intellectual English speaking skills that Fijians have, which made our work easier.”

“We are very grateful to those Fijians that came from the maritime and remote areas of Fiji, some travelling 2 to 3 days to be in Suva, to be able to attend the interview,” stated Mr Burt.

Mr Burt further highlighted that on this trip, the company has interviewed close to 200 candidates and will be selecting 100 Fijian workers for its November mobilisation.

The Fijian workers will be employed under Perfection Two Wells located in South Australia a horticulture industry that produces varieties of vegetables and fruits.

Mr Cawaru briefly shared with the team how such opportunities are having an impact on people’s lives and thanked MADEC Australia for visiting Fiji to recruit potential Fijian workers for employment opportunities in Australia.

He highlighted that the Ministry will continue striving to match the market demands and also ensure that Fiji supplies the best labour to overseas employers.

MADEC Australia targeted recruitment is based on workers that are already in the work-ready pool for seasonal work.
