SINCE 2007, the Australian government has supported over 700 Fijians to study at credible Australian and Fijian institutions through the Australia Awards program, an effort the High Commission in Suva says will be continued in the coming years.

Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes hosted an alumni networking cocktail event at his residence last night.

“Men and women of diverse backgrounds have studied in Australia and Fiji through the Australia Awards program and have contributed to building Fiji’s future in areas of health, education, infrastructure development, disability and gender, business and finance, environment and climate change,” Mr Feakes said.

“The 2019 networking event is particularly exciting as the alumni were able to share their personal and professional experiences with each other to better promote their work, as well as the effectiveness of the Australia Awards Scholarships and the Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships,” he added.

The Australia Awards are prestigious scholarships offered by the Australian government to individuals who strive to be leaders in their respective fields and make a difference in their home country.
