AUSTRALIAN High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes says the Australian Government is happy to provide further assistance to people affected by the recent flooding in the Western Division if the Fijian Government requests it.
Mr Feakes said they had already provided some assistance in support of the Government.
“We handed over chain-saws and water pumps last Wednesday. We will over coming days release further funds to civil society groups who are assisting the Government’s recovery efforts,” Mr Feakes said.
“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives over Easter and with those who suffered damage to their properties and businesses. We are hoping for the best over coming days and will provide any further assistance that is needed.
“We are in close touch with the Government, in particular the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and are watching the situation very closely as it unfolds.”
