Australia provides assistance

THE Australian Government has provided assistance of $85,000 to the Fiji Red Cross Society for the victims of Severe Tropical Cyclone Keni.

The assistance consists of hygiene and sanitary supplies which will be distributed to those hit the hardest.

Australia also provided an assistance of $50,000 to the Fijian Government in support of the relief efforts in response to TC Josie that occurred one week before Severe TC Keni.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has so far not received any requests for consular assistance from Australian citizens.

The Government has sent out teams to conduct assessments to ascertain further needs.

The Australian Government said it stood ready to assist further if needed.

It also sent its condolences to the Government and people of Fiji who were affected by TC Josie and Severe TC Keni.
