AUSTRALIAN women’s 7s team manager Dale Roberson views playing big teams such as New Zealand and Fiji Airways Fijiana during the Oceania Sevens championship as beneficial for their preparation for the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games.
“Any chance to play against quality opposition is a positive. Some of the strongest teams in the Commonwealth Games are from the Oceania region and this helps our preparation with the chance to play against them,” Roberson said.
“Every opportunity to play against teams from Oceania is exciting. NZ are the current world No 1 and Fiji really improved in the 16/17 HSBC World Sevens Series and will be strong in front of their home crowd. The other countries improve each year and always provide challenges with.
