Audio recording request

FIJI Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) lawyer Francis Pulewai made an application before High Court judge Justice Riyaz Hamza for FICAC to conduct audio recordings during the trial of former Fiji High commissioner to Australia Kamlesh Arya.
Mr Arya is also the registrar at the University of Fiji.
Ms Pulewai’s application was granted by Justice Hamza, with trial set for March 1 next year.
Mr Arya is charged with one count of abuse of office and general dishonesty causing a loss.
The alleged offences took place between January 1 and December 31, 2014, while the accused was employed as the registrar at the University of Fiji and while acting as the school manager for Bhawani Dayal Memorial Primary School.
It is alleged that Mr Arya did arbitrary acts for gain in abuse of the authority of his office, authorised loans amounting to $116,500 from the free education grant provided by the Ministry of Education to the said primary school.
