ATHLETICS Fiji’s regular season began yesterday as the first weekly Athletics Fiji competition gets to a running start at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Athletics Fiji president Filimoni Vuli said despite the delay they were keen to get things rolling.

“We would have preferred to have begun earlier but the safety of athletes was paramount.”

Vuli said in regards to the recent measles outbreak which was reason for a late start to the 2020 season.

“But nonetheless we are set to begin and we expect a healthy start.”

Vuli said they were expecting at least around 200 athletes to attend.

“With schools now back in session we expect our numbers to be high with both our senior athletes and student athletes who will be preparing for the Coca-Cola Games.

“What is important that we get the ball rolling so athletes may gauge themselves for the long season ahead.”
