THE missing link for Lomaiviti Province is the assistance given to offenders released from correctional facilities.

This was stated by chairman of the Lomaiviti Provincial Council, Joji Qionibaravi, during the Lomaiviti Yellow Ribbon Program Symposium facilitated by the Fiji Corrections Service in Suva yesterday.

Mr Qionibaravi acknowledged FCS for hosting the symposium to create awareness on what is needed to be done once an offender is released from prison.

“After the introductory notes given to us today (yesterday), it has become very clear on what link the yasana, district reps and village headmen have — an important role in facilitating these offenders once they come out of prison,” said Mr Qionibaravi.

He says this is a way forward for the province and they will hold consultations to create care committees within their villages.

“I believe this will be the way forward for us to help the inmate when he or she comes out of prison,” he said.
