IMPRESSIVE Army Bears will not feature in the quarter-final after they missed out in the Vodafone Cup eliminations at USP grounds in Suva yesterday.
This was confirmed by the Fiji National Rugby League chief executive officer Timoci Naleba.
Army Bears were supposed to play Ravoravo Rabbitohs but they are in Australia to compete in the Defence Forces World Cup.
“Army Bears have been one of the top teams in the competition with the University of the South Pacific who had shown a lot of fine performances. Unfortunately, Army Bears will miss out the quarter-final since they are in Australia,” he said.
“Ravoravo Rabbitohs would not automatically qualify for the quarter-final.
“The request to defer the match came late and because we don’t have a long season this year as we have other commitments such as World Cup and Tri Nations and if had shifted the match then it would have affected the whole competition.”
Naleba said the season had been very competitive.
“We have a lot of teams who had come up strongly,” he added.
“Team like Ra had always been surprising in the past especially when they come into the elimination stage.”
