The announcement of this election date shows how arrogant this Government is.

This, according to The People’s Alliance party (PA) deputy leader Manoa Kamikamica.

Responding to queries from this newspaper, Mr Kamikamica welcomed the announcement of the 2022 General Election, which is slated for December 14.

However, he criticised the decision to hold the election so close to the holiday season.

“They are doing it at a time when people are supposed to be planning their holidays to be with their families,” he said.

“Our plea to the voters is that this election is all about sacrificing and doing the right thing in terms of what you believe the future of this country needs to be.

“My request to the voters is to make sure you’re ready to vote. Sacrifice few days of your holiday and make sure you go to the polling venue to cast your vote for the party of your choice.”

Mr Kamikamica said they were ready to rumble. “We welcome the announcement.

“It’s been announced after a long time which we all had been waiting for.

“We are ready to rumble. “We believe that this country needs change.

“It needs new leadership and new directions for our country.

“The voters will now have the ability to voice their view on this Government.”

Mr Kamikamica said their manifesto and the names of the leftover provisional candidates would be announced soon.

“The names are already with the leader. “There are about 10-12 candidates that are left to be announced.

“So now that the writ will be announced and the leader returns from Vanua Levu on Tuesday, we will make a decision on the timing.

“We obviously need them to apply as well and follow the nomination process.

“As soon as the leader comes, we’ll make the announcement. “Our manifesto will be announced soon as well.

“At the moment, we are putting some final touches on it.

“We have a strategy on how we want to attend this election so the timing of the manifesto will go with the strategy that we have in place.”
