Alleged rape case referred to cops

THE allegation of rape against a group of soldiers, who are alleged to have raped a woman soldier while on duty has also been referred to police.

This was confirmed by Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) chief of staff Brigadier General Jone Kalouniwai.

Brig-Gen Kalouniwai had earlier stated that on such cases, the RFMF had its own regulation concerning investigations and penalties in accordance with the law of the country.

“They understand that we are doing our investigation,” he said.

“We are in the final stages of our investigation now so we will be doing our own disciplinary process within the RFMF.”

The woman soldier had lodged a report with the organisation of the alleged incident last month.

Brig-Gen Kalouniwai said they would not comment any further as it would jeopardise the investigations.

He confirmed RFMF would release an official statement once they completed their investigations.
