Alleged killer driver bailed

A 54-year-old Lautoka man who drove a vehicle that allegedly killed a seven-year-old boy in Natabua earlier this week has been granted bail. Praveen Sewak appeared at the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death. He is alleged to have been speeding when the vehicle hit the St Thomas Primary School student on Tuesday afternoon. Magistrate Bandula Gunaratne granted bail for the carpenter with a $500 cash bond. He ordered Mr Sewak to provide two sureties and to report to his nearest police station daily until his next appearance. Police prosecutor Constable Theodore Leo also asked the magistrate that a stop departure order be imposed against Mr Sewak. The case has been adjourned to July 30 for mention.
