Children need to be well-supported by school counsellors once they are back in school, says Save the Children Fiji CEO Shairana Ali.

While responding to queries from this newspaper on students affected by flooding while preparing for the upcoming exams, she said there was a need for schools to work with the parents and the Education Ministry.

“Schools will need to work with parents and also with MEHA and stakeholders to make appropriate decisions on preparations for exams,” Ms Ali said.

“Children need to be well-supported by school counsellors once they are back in school.”

She said education must remain a priority for families.

“Parents will have to prioritise children’s education as much as possible.

“We keep emphasising to families that they need to save money and ensure children are well-prepared to go back to schools,” she said.
