Save the Children Fiji has strongly recommended that Fiji ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children (CRC), Child Prostitution and Child Pornography.

CEO Shairana Ali said by ratifying, Fiji would be able to demonstrate to other nations that it was responsible and accountable for child protection and demonstrate to its citizens that children’s wellbeing was a core component of the government’s agenda and plan of action.

She said after the 2019 Universal Periodic Review, Fiji committed to ratifying all the Optional Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Ms Ali said the ratification of the optional protocol was timely as Fiji was currently preparing for the CRC reporting to the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
