EDUCATION Minister Rosy Akbar said the ministry would focus on curriculum and assessment monitoring this year.
She made the comments during a recent meeting with staff members from the Education Ministry’s Curriculum Development Unit (CDU), Technology and Employment Skills Training (TEST) section and Examinations and Assessment Unit (EAU).
Ms Akbar said the purpose of the meeting was to re-engage, receive progress updates and ensure alignment with government’s national development objectives.
“The 2020 school year, for all intents and purposes, is envisioned to be largely focused on curriculum and assessment monitoring and evaluation, and research analysis to improve educational achievements,” she said.
In a statement posted on her official Facebook page, Ms Akbar said curriculum officers were directly responsible for the development of quality curriculum and assessment resources such as syllabus, textbooks, teacher’s guide, examination papers, detailed solutions and examiner reports.
She said there was a need for teacher training institutions to ensure their graduates were high performing teachers with the necessary content, technological and pedagogical knowledge.
“My curriculum officers will continue to identify and provide in-service professional development to all our teachers as required.”
