Akbar clarifies acting posts

POSITIONS of acting head of school can be revoked at the end of the acting period or earlier under certain circumstances, says Education Minister Rosy Akbar.

She also told heads of schools that they should view their acting position as a privilege.

Ms Akbar said the performance of teachers who were acting in leadership positions would be done in line with their job description.

“There is no compulsion on the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts to renew acting appointments which are made annually since there are many factors in play apart from performance,” she said.

Ms Akbar said it was imperative for heads of schools to perform because they would be assessed accordingly.

She said heads of schools must take charge and be prudent about how they managed their schools and staff.

She said some heads of schools were being investigated for allegations such as abuse of funds, corporal punishment and sexual harassment, to name a few.
