EDUCATION Minister Rosy Akbar has challenged Members of Parliament to rise above self interest and work towards building a better Fiji.

In her maiden speech in Parliament this morning, Ms Akbar said Fiji needed a Parliament that understood the needs of the nation and Fijian citizens and one that worked collectively, over and above petty point scoring to make the country strong and vibrant.

“A Fiji where we will not fester hatred and fear,” she said.

“A Fiji where every Fijian feels safe, every child has a gleam of hope and excitement in their eyes for what the future holds for him or her.”
