Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Minister Rosy Akbar told Community Based Corrections (CBC) officers that their work was critical to rehabilitating and reforming low-risk offenders.

She made the comment while opening a three-day Community Based Corrections (CBC) training for the Central Division welfare officers yesterday.

“We do not want to fail as key implementing agencies because our work affects lives,” Ms Akbar said.

“Our work will help people rehabilitate and reform.”

Ms Akbar said so far 318 individuals had been trained as community volunteer supervisors in the three divisions and 37 welfare officers had been trained in the CBC program.

“I have also been assured that the relevant guidelines and policy of the program will soon be submitted to my table for onward vetting by the Office of the Solicitor General and I really look forward to that.”

Ms Akbar said the training session should be an enlightening experience for them.
