AIRPORTS Fiji Ltd has been renamed Fiji Airports. While announcing the name change at the Nadi International Airport last night, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said it was important that the new name reflected and promoted the Fijian brand.

“The significance of this rebranding is obviously branding,” he told Fiji Airports staff members.

“As you all know our national airline flies through this airport and it is known as Fiji Airways so its better for you to be known as Fiji Airports. “Of course we have had numerous brand change also, we now have Tourism Fiji which used to be the Fiji Visitors Bureau which sounded very bureaucratic. “We now have Film Fiji and we now have Investment Fiji also.”

He said marketing Fiji’s brand was an important aspect of attracting more people into the country.

“So a number of changes have been made of course to ensure that the brand of Fiji is marketed. “We are a small and developing country and what we have are our key assets and this is actually one of our main ones. “We have gotten a lot of attention when our Prime Minister was the COP23 president and we need to be able to capitalise on that. “Over the past 18 months Fiji has had enormous international footprint and we need to take advantage of that.”

He added that ordinary Fijians would also benefit from the international attention. Fiji Airports next big event is the official opening of the refurbished Nadi International Airport next week.
