Aircraft grounding fails to hamper operations

FIJI Airways was able to cater for passenger and route changes despite the grounding of the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 earlier this year.

Speaking at a 2019 Fijian Tourism Expo media presentation yesterday, Fiji Airways chief commercial officer Marc Cavaliere said the grounding of the two aircraft did not have a significant impact on the airline’s operations.

“We had to realign our passenger and route structure and flight schedule with minimal impact to our guests,” he said.

“It hasn’t been without absolutely no delays because there were some delays but fortunately it was much less than what some other airlines faced.”

Mr Cavaliere said the airline had been able to adapt and work with its current fleet.

“We think we are beyond the major challenges of that right now and just like everybody we are waiting for the recertification process to be finalised before we can have them back in the air.”

In March this year, the airline was forced to ground two of its Boeing 737 MAX 8s after an Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed killing 157 people.

After the tragedy, airlines across the globe grounded their Boeing 737 MAX 8s.

After the airline claimed the aircraft had suffered technical issues.
