PROFESSOR Pal Ahluwalia of the University of Portsmouth in the UK has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor and president of the University of the South Pacific. Prof Ahluwalia replaces Prof Rajesh Chandra who served in that position for the past 10 years.
The newly appointed VC will take up office in November this year to allow for a smooth transition and handover process by the outgoing VC.
The decision to hire Prof Ahluwalia was made during the 86th council meeting of the university in Nauru.
USP’s pro-chancellor and chair of the council Winston Thompson said Prof Ahluwalia brings with him a wealth of experience which will make him a strong applicant for that position anywhere in the world.
