One of Fiji’s most popular music artists Akanisi Vakaloloma who goes by the name Aggie will be hitting the stage at this year’s Woodstock Uprising Music festival with her five-piece band called The Sessions.

“I’m looking forward to the various artists’ performances and them bringing in their own vibes to the biggest music festival in Fiji,” she said.

Aggie said performing at a festival was very different from how an artist approaches a club or corporate gig.

“I have been to other festivals, and it’s not just the vocals alone, you have to have the ability to entertain the crowd.”

Aggie said her crew would bring crowd-pleasing ‘vude vibes’, by reviving a medley made famous by iconic Fijian musician and entertainer Sakiusa Bulicokocoko.

For her fans, she promised one or two originals from her debut album that had dropped a while ago.

“We’d like to explore most of the music genres that we have here in Fiji and do some of the jams that we love.

“My inspiration comes from how my fans perceive me when I entertain and sometimes I sing a song or two that takes them by surprise.

“So I should be doing 11 songs in a span of about 50 minutes.

“I will be performing popular songs of today and yes, there is a Hindi song that I will be performing that the crowds should look out for.”

Aggie said at every performance, either as a soloist or with her entire band, the aim was to do better than the last gig and expand their repertoire in the process.

“I have a band that is energetic and since I’m the only girl, they are the ones who motivate and hype me every time we do gigs.

“I am a testament that music took me to places I never dreamt of and met people I never thought I would.

“So to people that lack appreciation and understanding of the creative arts, I urge you to show appreciation because music is the universal language.

“Without music and us (the musicians and also the players) the world will be really boring.”
