THE Fiji Government has made a commitment towards ratifying the protocol amending the TRIPS (Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) agreement.
Under this agreement countries could use the flexible amendments to get affordable medicine.
According to Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Shaheen Ali, WTO country members would not need to implement any legislations in its domestic laws if they ratify it.
He said Fiji could benefit by importing generic medicines at a cheaper price should there be a disease outbreak.
