ACTOR Matt Young believes staying fit is a profitable commodity and contributes to a person’s capabilities in being more active in their career.

“As a professional actor in film and television, my fitness and health are profitable commodities. Days on a film set are often 10-12 hour days 5 or 6 days a week,” Young said.

“Without the healthy lifestyle that running and my other exercise activities provide me, I would not have the stamina to do my job.”

Young is an actor and speech trainer by profession and will be part of the coming Island Chill Suva Marathon event scheduled for July 27 at Albert Park in Suva.

“I’m a regular runner with the Suva Marathon Club on Thursday and last year, my family and I walked the team marathon, and we won best dressed team, in our Julius Caesar costumes.

“I’m planning on running the 10k and I am training to run a six minute race, it won’t win me any awards but at age 46, I reckon it’s a strong pace,” said Young.

The 46-year-old ran in his high school years so he is no stranger to marathon events.

“I have no major places or times to brag about, but have been a runner since high school when I would represent Gardner High School’s Cross Country and Track and Field running teams at a state level. Although with his busy schedule as an actor, young sets time aside for training and keeping fit.

“I only run once a week with the Suva Marathon Club. But I workout at Suva Boxing and Fitness Gym two to three times a week.”

The Island Chill Suva Marathon is expected on June 27 at Albert Park .
