ACCF reaches out to families of those involved in the accident near Kasavu

The Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF) has reached out to the family of the occupants of the vehicle that was crushed by a fallen branch near Kasavu outside Nausori on Saturday, August 27 (2022).

ACCF chief executive officer Parvez Akbar advised the board of this update when it met yesterday.

“ACCF expressed its sincere condolences to the family and has offered assistance and support in respect of applications for compensation that may arise from the incident,” Mr Akbar said.

The couple – a man in his 70s and his 61-year-old wife from Vitawa in Rakiraki died at the scene.

Meanwhile, Mr Akbar also noted to the Board that close to 80 per cent of the victims or families of the victims who were seriously injured or lost loved ones from motor vehicle, employment and school accidents would have missed out from receiving compensation under the old law.

He said they established that after analysing payments made by ACCF in the context of the previous requirement to prove fault.
