Absolutely fantastic

Fiji demolished Sri Lanka and Uganda but our boys were caught by and had to dig deep against Wales.

I had predicted in my letter on Saturday that the Welsh Dragons would come out firing against Fiji and they exactly did that.

Despite their recent strings of heavy defeats against Fiji, Wales scored three tries and the conversions separated Wales and Fiji and Fiji progressed to the semis.

Fans were at the edge of their seats in the pulsating encounter as Fiji took on favourites South Africa who had Geduld, Specman, Preez, Afrika, Snyman, Brown and Sage.

Fiji was in rampaging form and backed by strong support bashed the Blitzbokke and knocked them out of gold medal contention.

We have now beaten South Africa five times in a row and this fifth victory was so special.

The Boks had travelled to HK with their development team and saved the best for Gold Coast but they forgot that Gold Coast is our happy hunting ground.

As I write, NZ was our hurdle to the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games which we have yet to capture.

The All Blacks beat Fiji in 1998 and 2002.

Thank you boys for working hard to beat Neil Powell’s stars! Baber and our boys deserve a round of applause.

Toso Viti!
