ABOUT 30 per cent of Fiji’s population live in poverty.

This was the claim made by the leader of Unity Fiji party, Savenaca Narube, during a pocket meeting held in Nasinu on Thursday.

Mr Narube said this was because of the high cost of living.

“This is the result of the continuing increase in the cost of living and yet ordinary people’s income still has not increased, but still remained the same,” Mr Narube said.

He said Unity Fiji would re-look at the cost of living in order to assist those under the low-income bracket.

Mr Narube said Fijians must look at how the government was operating.

“Just look at how the system is now, you and I both know the current situation we are in.

“Has it helped us progress or not?”
